As It Is In Heaven
University of Memphis, 2026
A profound exploration of faith, community, and the human spirit, As It Is in Heaven transports audiences to the 1830s Shaker society of Pleasant Hill, Kentucky. The community’s ordered existence is upended by the arrival of Fanny, a non-believer who claims to have seen angels. Her ecstatic visions spark a whirlwind of spiritual gifts, songs, and dances, challenging the established norms and leading to questions of authenticity and divine truth. Directed by Holly L. Derr, this play weaves a tapestry of hymns, simplicity, and soaring belief, culminating in a celebration of Shaker traditions and human wonder.
